What is the Operational Drag Index?

The Operational Drag Index (ODI) is a free 10-question self-check designed to help you see how much operational drag may be building inside your business.

It looks at the conditions that make work harder to move, decisions slower to make, and problems more likely to keep resurfacing.

The ODI is designed for owners and senior leaders of growing field service companies who have enough people, volume, and complexity that the operation doesn’t run as simply as it once did.

You don’t need to be experiencing a crisis. In fact, the ODI can be especially useful when the business is doing well but running it feels harder than you think it should.

You’ll receive your result by email, along with an explanation of what it suggests about the level of operational drag inside your business and what that means operationally.

The goal isn’t simply to give you a score. It’s to help you recognize whether you’re dealing with isolated friction, compounding drag, or something more structural.

No. The ODI is a useful starting point, but it isn’t a prerequisite for the Operational Health Assessment.

If you already know you want a deeper look at what’s happening inside your operation, you can go directly to the Assessment.

The Operational Health Assessment is a focused review of how work actually moves through your service business.

We look past the visible symptoms to identify where execution is losing continuity, where people are compensating for gaps, and what is creating unnecessary operating burden.

You leave with a clear view of what deserves attention first and why.

Who is the Assessment for?

The Operational Health Assessment is designed for established field service companies where the work is getting done, but doing so requires more follow-up, intervention, workarounds, or management attention than it should.

It’s especially useful when the business is growing, complexity is increasing, or recurring operating problems keep resurfacing despite repeated fixes.

We examine how work moves through the business from intake and scheduling through field execution, closeout, follow-up, and billing.

The focus is on where work slows, loops backward, loses information, requires extra intervention, or depends too heavily on particular people to keep moving.

Usually, not very.

We’ll need enough access to understand how work actually moves through the operation, but the Assessment is designed to minimize disruption to the day-to-day business.

If we need input from specific team members, we’ll keep it focused and purposeful.

The Assessment includes a 2 hour deep-dive Zoom session, followed by our analysis and a 1 hour Findings Review.

Your live meeting time is about three hours total. The time between sessions depends on the size and complexity of the operation and the amount of material we need to review.

The Operational Health Assessment is $1,800 per location.

For companies with three or more locations, contact Field Command for pricing.
